2 held in chain snatching case at Porvorim

Porvorim police have arrested two persons in connection with a chain-snatching incident that took place on January 15. According to North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan, Suman Rao (60) from Pundalik Nagar in Porvorim lodged a complaint at the Porvorim Police stating that two unknown persons had come on a motorcycle and had snatched away her gold chain and Mangalsutra near the Jivottam Math in Porvorim on January 15.


Porvorim Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar immediately started an investigation by analysing CCTV footage and technical surveillance. Based on data collected, they nabbed two accused, Raju Selvaraj Tangaraj (37) of Hubli-Karnataka and Bhimgunda Maruti Patil (30) of Gandhinglaj-Karnataka at Pilerne and recovered cash of Rs 1.93 lakh, gold ornaments, a motorcycle with a fake number plate, fake Aadhaar card, a car and other incriminating material. The entire property recovered is worth Rs 10 lakh.


Police said another accused involved in the crime is on the run and efforts are on to nab him. Both accused persons are habitual offenders and were arrested previously in an Arms Act in 2020 by Valpoi police. Further investigation is in progress. Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar informed that the stolen property is yet to be recovered and police remand of the accused is being sought.
