The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has apprehended Chanpreet Singh, suspected of arranged fund payments during the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) election campaign in Goa. Singh's arrest marks the latest development in the ongoing probe into the Delhi excise policy case.

Singh, the 17th individual to be implicated in the case, was presented before a special Delhi court on Saturday. Following the proceedings, he has been remanded to ED custody until April 18.

Sources suggest that Singh, who served as a freelance worker for AAP from May-June 2021 to March 2022 specifically for the Goa election campaign, allegedly played a pivotal role in managing cash funds for the party. Notably, he purportedly received a salary directly from AAP in February 2022 and additional funds from affiliated entities involved in PR work.

Furthermore, Singh's connections with key figures implicated in the Delhi liquor scam, including Vijay Nair and AAP leaders, have come under scrutiny. This evidence indicates a deeper involvement in the alleged malpractice surrounding the excise policy.

The ED's actions come in the wake of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's recent arrest in connection with the same case. Despite Kejriwal's plea for interim relief, the Supreme Court declined to intervene immediately, issuing a notice to the ED to respond by April 24.

In related developments, a Delhi court has extended Kejriwal's judicial custody until April 23. The ED has previously asserted that funds derived from bribes were utilized for AAP's campaigning efforts in the Goa Assembly polls of 2022.

As the investigation in this matter is in progress, the case continues to shed light on alleged irregularities surrounding the Delhi excise policy and its ramifications on political campaigns.
