The much-anticipated inauguration of the Goa-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express train took place virtually, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagging off the train on Tuesday.
The Margao-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express holds the distinction of being Goa's first Vande Bharat Express. It will travel between Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Margao station, offering a journey time that is approximately one hour shorter than the current fastest train connecting these two locations. The train will be operational six days a week, excluding Fridays.
It may be recalled that the commissioning of the Margao-Mumbai train was called off after the recent major train accident in Orissa. The Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw who had arrived for the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat train inaugural event in Goa had to rush to Balasore district where the accident occurred to take stock of the situation.
