Career switches, whether mild or drastic, are not uncommon.
Musicians emerging from other fields have also been heard of before, but in the
case of Aditya Ganesh K, it seems that deep down under the IT Engineer façade
was a DJ waiting to emerge.
Sharing his first brush with electronica, he says, “My first
inclination towards EDM was when I first heard ‘Sandstorm’, a 1999 trance track
by Finnish trance DJ Darude. It created a kind of a buzz in me that
was unprecedented and as such, I felt the need to further explore the genre and
various sub-genres that it entails. House, to an extent, began gaining huge
amounts of popularity in about 2005, so a lot of the music I was listening to
at a given time was not very popular at the time. Yet I persisted, knowing that
it would, at some point in time, pay dividends.”

An IT Engineer by profession, Aditya Ganesh K spent most of
his time doing a regular 9-to-5 job, all the while dwelling on a particular
moment that had moved him while he was a student. “I was studying in Mangalore,
where at a given point in time, there was a music festival being organised. As
is the case with such festivals, commercial music is what catches the attention
of the crowd, and as an end result, most DJs at the venue began catering to
their taste, which is perfectly understandable. However, at one end I could
hear a lone DJ playing Rise Up by Yves Larock. In my quest to best understand
various kinds of EDM, this was a track I had stumbled upon and was one that was
very close to my heart. In that moment I also realised what it was that I
wanted to do. The ability for someone to be able to create that kind of
impression on you with music is indescribable and is something that I would
love to be able to do for others,” he says.
Having slowly worked his way onto the nightlife circuit, he
then travelled to The Netherlands, where, over time, he made an impression on
nightlife aficionados. Then on November 11, 2014, he was invited to play his
mix on a local radio station, Mega Beat Club Radio, Amsterdam. Having excelled
there, he has been invited to return and play at more of their sessions, but
his immediate focus lies at home.
“Goa can be a huge hub for music production. There is a huge
pool of talent here and we have already tasted success in this area through DJs
who are also producers such as Aneesh Gera. Hence I would like to take my music
a step further by independently producing EDM,” he says with conviction.
With this as a firm and immediate goal, one can’t help but
feel that these are but the early stages in what seems to be a long road ahead
for Aditya Ganesh K.
