The expanse of the sea is a permanent backdrop to a stage that is always set; a stage that leaps out to the coast and is caressed by the sand. The stage here is Boca Loca, a beach restaurant that stretches into the never-ending expanse of the sand and the sea in a continuous line of magnificence.

Located on the Candolim beach belt, Boca Loca (the name literally translates to ‘crazy mouth’) is an expansive and luxurious beach lounge. At first glance, the place looks like a bohemian beach club, but as you enter it, you’re exposed to its true ethos. The venue is planned to accommodate a large amount of people in varied seating environments such as conventional tables and chairs, cabanas and sun beds.
Boca Loca’s plush sofas and woven fabric tarp transport you from the bustle of Candolim to a charming and serene beach environment. The light colour tones, rustic furniture and inviting sun beds immediately strike you with the need to relax, complementing your ideal beach day. It’s the kind of environment wherein time doesn’t stay still, but you will.

Boca Loca has a unique menu comprising contemporary comfort food. The menu has been designed by owner and consulting Chef Sarika Varshnei and Chef Anish Varshnei. Their distinctive sense of taste leaves your inner foodie feeling enthralled. The multi-cuisine menu allows you to choose from a wide variety of food, ranging from continental to oriental.
Some of the ‘must tries’ are:
– Cured red snapper flat bread with cream cheese drizzled with wasabi oil (Chef Anish’s signature dish)
– Delicate, refreshing and lightly steamed Bao bun with crispy pork in Asian BBQ sauce.
– Modern, sweet, tangy, creamy and crispy grilled pomfret with horseradish jus, the pomfret is perfectly smoked giving it an elegant taste.
In Candolim’s sea of bars and restaurants with watered down cocktails, it is refreshing to find a bar that serves well thought out artisanal cocktails. Boca Loca has a variety of interesting alcohol such as infused vodkas (infused with lemon, star anise, cinnamon, clove and cardamom) and their signature cocktails with our favourite being the Kombucha gin and blackberry cocktail. Its herbaceous pine flavour with a hint of gin combined with a bubbly crisp kombucha is a perfect blend with added health benefits such as being rich in antioxidants, low in calories and rich in probiotics!
Shashak and Resham, two food bloggers, spoke of their fondness of Boca Loca’s drink selection: “We had some super refreshing cocktails at Boca Loca! We had the Drunken Botanist, which was a cinnamon-infused vodka drink; this was definitely one of the best cocktails we’ve had. We recommend the Appletini as well; this was a blend of vodka and apple juice.”
Looking at the setting sun, with another magical evening beckoning, Sarika says “At Boca Loca, you reclaim your life and add life to your years. It’s my Valentine and I can’t describe it in words”
