Konkani golden oldies had a charm of their own and every true blue Goan is sure to know the
lyrics of those meaningful and well composed songs. If you are singing ‘Piti
Piti Kaliz hem zata’, the next person will surely sing the next line ‘Nidlear
nid poddonam pun tuzoch ugddas mhaka ieta’, because those songs were so catchy.
Two songs from Chris Perry’s album ‘Golden Hits’ that was released in 1973 –
‘Kazarachem Utor’, originally sung by H Britton, and ‘Piti Piti Mog’ by
Antonette – are back in the limelight as they were recently featured in a
mash-up video created by DnT Band comprising Denzil Pereira and Trisca
Fernandes. In a week’s time, the song has gained numerous shares and over
55,000 views.
DnT was formed nine years ago and is now well known in the
Bollywood and corporate circuit, having a wide repertoire of singing in
different languages including Punjabi, Gujarati and Spanish and having been
part of events in countries like United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Kuwait,
Singapore, Malaysia, UK, Germany and Switzerland. Denzil, from Canacona, is a
singer, music director and lyricist while Trisca, who was born in Dubai, is a
trained Hindustani classical vocalist. DnT released their debut cover song ‘Tum
Mhojem Sukh’ last year and this year, they followed up with two classics.
What made them decide
on shortlisting these two classic songs? “The melody, lyrics and the soul of
the song is what caught our attention. Our sole intention behind the concept of
doing these old classics was to inculcate love for Konkani songs amongst the
younger generation and to make our Konkani music popular worldwide,” says
Denzil, while Trisca adds, “Chris Perry’s music is undying. He is one of the
greatest legends in music, whose songs are immortal. No matter how much you
listen to his music, you can’t get enough of it.”

Dr Hubert Gomes and
his wife, Risoleta, have made their onscreen debut with this video. The cast
also includes Sancho Menezes, Denzil and Trisca. The video has been directed by
Prashant Shirodkar, the director of photography is Pankaj Karapurkar, lights
are by Josephfern D’Souza and the video has been edited by Sameer Adkonkar. The
recording and dubbing is by Aurvile Rodrigues, mix and mastering by Ishan Naik
and vocals by Denzil and Trisca with backing voice by Zia Rodrigues.
After their revisit
version of an old classic ‘Tum Mhojem Sukh’, which was won accolades globally
almost a year ago, DnT thought of the cover rendition of two Konkani love
classics that are soulful to the heart, melodious to the ears and picturesque
to the eyes. “We’ve been busy travelling for international shows hence the
release of the video was delayed. But the team work by every single individual
associated in making this musical video was worth the wait. The most rewarding
feeling is of the parents sending in their kids’ videos, of them singing and
dancing to the tunes of these classics. This was exactly one of the goals we
wanted to achieve by doing these old classics,” says Denzil.
“We
have just returned from the UK after our gigs in Europe and the most amazing
feeling was to be featured on an international radio channel in the UK, where
we sang Konkani songs apart from Western and Bollywood songs. We were all set
to release our original songs but due to public request we decided to continue
with these remakes as our previous remake of ‘Tum Mhojem Sukh’ was widely
appreciated,” concludes Trisca.
