A dream
come true for any foodie has to be an eating contest comprising your favourite
food. Offering just that is the Goan Man vs Food Contest which is in its second
year. “The format of the event is the same as last year where challengers
battle it out amongst each other for the 6 positions in The Grand Finale. The
finalists then fight for the title. Although, this year the event has become
even bigger, and the title is much sweeter,” said Marlon Lobo, Chef and Founder
of The Goan Foodie, adding, “We watch it on TV and say ‘We can do it’. Well, here’s
your chance!”
It all
started with the call for entries; people interested in participating were
asked to send in their felfies (Selfie gorging food). The response was
overwhelming with over 60 heavy-duty, hardcore foodies wanting to take on this
monumental challenge of downing the foot-high Zombie Burger. This burger is a
creation of the very talented Chef Macustoy Almeida, owner of Cherry Tomato
Café at Colva. This is, by far, the biggest burger in Goa.

The 15 finalists
who will battle it out at the preliminary round at Cherry Tomato Café, today,
are Duncan Rodrigues, Linoshka D’silva, Roger Rebello, Nadia Fernandes, Rox
Gomes, Shane Rodrigues, Elton Coelho, Fred D’souza, Conrad Barreto, Daniel
Carneiro, Manfred, Pildon Fernandes, Wenchesly Gray, Ryan Moniz and Banclo
Dias. Their challenge? The fastest 6 to finish off the Zombie will move to the
Grand Finale.
The
grand finale between the final six will be held on September 6, 2015 at Firfly
Bistro in Benaulim at 7 pm. Their challenge? To finish a 3-course meal in 45
minutes. The ultimate challenge will comprise – 1st Course (Mexican): Chilly
Dog + All That’s Good Nachos + Kingfisher pint; 2nd Course (Italian): Spaghetti
and meat balls + A glass of wine; 3rd Course (Desert): Fruit trifle
flambéed with Vodka. The first to do so will take home the winning title.
