Clinching the first runner-up place at the Dance India Dance-Super Moms
(2013), Goa’s own Cecille Rodrigues returned to home turf with a purpose. “Having
had the privilege to experience and participate in a national level dance show,
I knew that I wanted to come back to encourage and promote the level of dance
in Goa. People have the passion and enthusiasm, but unfortunately, for lack of
opportunity and finances, are not able to go far. I want to bring this
opportunity to them by conducting workshops of various dance styles with
national level dancers here in Goa itself. It is my dream to see more Goan
people participate on a national front and represent Goa,” she avers.
Putting her students through the paces at her recently opened CAPA
Studio in Panjim, Cecille will now introduce India’s robot dancing sensation,
Amardeep Singh Nath, in her ‘Robotic Workshop’. To a generation that is already
cued on to robotics, this dance style will be an innovative and welcome move.
“The robotic style of dance is still new in India, but Amardeep has been
training rigorously – eight hours a day for the past four years. Last year, he
featured among the top five of dance reality show ‘India’s Dancing Superstar’.
He will shortly be representing India at an International competition,” she
elucidates of the performer nicknamed the ‘Zinda robot’, who performs,
choreographs and conducts workshops throughout India.

In the forthcoming workshop, Amardeep will introduce his students to ‘robotics’;
‘kill beat’ (where the student is taught to distinguish the minute beat in the
music and incorporate it in the dance) and lastly, freestyle dancing.
“Participants will be taught to fuse different styles of dance to the tunes of
Bollywood and international music,” affirms Cecille. On the closing night,
Amardeep will have a special showing at the Latin Night at L’Orange.
To demystify the glamour quotient of reality shows and fame, Cecille and
Amardeep will share their experiences in a talk ‘Tough Life to Gain Fame’.
“It’s a tough world out there, but grab every opportunity that comes by,”
advocates Cecille.
