The Institut français in collaboration with the Association Française du cinéma d’animation
(French Association of Animated Films) has planned to celebrate the animated film festival abroad
for the entire month of October. In Goa, Alliance Française Panjim will play host for the two day
festivals with six animated films. Celebrating the film festival for the fourth consecutive year, the
festival has received a great response over the years for the films as they are screened in French
with English subtitles and are open to all. This year, among the films proposed by the
Institut Français are the films of Jacques-Rémy Girerd, one of the most widely known French
filmmaker of animated films. Director of gentle and poetic animated films, Jacques-Rémy Girerd chose
animated films following his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts of Lyon. In 1981, he set up Studio
Folimage, and in 1999 a school, La Poudrière.
In 1988, his short film, ‘Le Petit Cirque de toutes
les couleurs’, was distinguished with a César for
the best animated short film. He then directed a
medium-length film, ‘L’Enfant au grelot’ (Charlie’s
Christmas), which won several prizes, such as the
European Golden Cartoon prize in 1998, followed
by three feature films, including the widely
acclaimed ‘La Prophétie des grenouilles’ (Raining
cats and frogs), also with several awards attributed
in major international festivals.
Today, October 17, 2014, ‘Charlie’s Christmas’
by Jacques-Remy Girerd will be screened at 5pm,
followed by ‘Raining Cats and Frogs’ by Jacques
Girerd at 5.30pm and ‘My Mummy is in America
and She Met Buffalo Bill’ by MarcBoreal and Thibaut
Chatel at 7pm. On October 18, 2014, ‘My Little
Planet’ by Jacques-Rémy Girerd will be screened
at 3pm followed by ‘The King and the Mockingbird’
by Paul Grimault at 4pm and ‘Aya de Yopougon’
by Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie at
5.30pm will conclude the festival. The films will be
screened at Alliance Française Panjim.
