The government’s hidden agendas are coming to the fore by engaging in projects, not in the interest of the general public of Goa. They are taking advantage of the fact that even the vigilant Goans cannot protest peacefully, as was seen in the recent incidents at Taliegao, due to the imposition of Sec.144. The government is using the lockdown as an excuse to silence the opposition of vigilant Goans. I hope and pray that Goa realises their game plan behind the continual extension of S.144 and on whose behest the said anti-Goan agenda is being promoted by the Government. In this time when the world is in fear of COVID-19, everybody is trying all the remedies to boost their family’s immunity, this cutting of trees and deforestation for projects is hampering the immunity of nature and mother Earth itself. Everyone is pretty upset with the present scenario because a lot of things are now being pushed through in a time when the virus is running rampant and section 144 is in place. People had opposed this in the past and the government is pushing it all through in a hurry. They know the people can’t come out, they are basically scared to come in numbers. Even with the Taleigao fields, everything has happened during the lockdown because they know people will not come out in numbers. There is always a need for development in every state for the betterment of its citizens but in current pandemic situations, double tracking, cutting of trees, etc. should be avoided. We have now reached a stage where we are facing unpredictable atmospheric changes and cutting down trees are adding more trouble to it- Ronal Siroya, Candolim
People must be taken into confidence before starting these major projects. Now that said it’s not possible to discuss the project in complete detail so we talk about roads and trees are going to be cut which are going to come in the alignment. But the issues about building the new IIT complex in the conservation area are wrong and such a project site should be relocated.- Ravi Gohil Porvorim
