Maharashtra is finally under President’s rule. But
not before the whole drama of breaking of alliances and the attempt to bring
together disparate groups who fought against each other to come together for
power has given many Goans a sense of tiredness and dejavu of the disappointing
kind. Café spoke to some of them:
Saying one thing and doing something else is the
very essence of politics. This happens all over the world. In my younger days,
I along with other people of my generation had higher expectations. Now I have
noticed people are willing to accept anything. No one is willing to challenge.
We are regressing progressively. When the Congress party members joined the BJP
where was the anger? We need a massive revolution. Instead of marching ahead,
we are moving towards fundamentalism. Today we hear such rubbish. I have become
completely disheartened. The youth is not bothered; they have become part of

It is sad what is happening. There are some
elements who take the youth for granted. There has to be some sort of ethics
from these politicos. Otherwise it will be tragic. Please remember, Presidents
rule will mean another round of elections in the next six months, if there is
no government. It is our money”

I feel whatever that’s happening in Mumbai is a
waste of time as well as disappointment. It is disappointing because in all
these political happenings, common people are stuck. So, I really hope all this
comes to an end as soon as possible.

Everything that happens in politics affects
my state. We voted for one party but another party took the reigns of power. I
don’t think we are a democracy anymore. We are voting, then what. Everyone is
walking across the floor and trading. I will continue voting but I don’t know
who I will vote for. I will not shy from my democratic responsibilities.

Personally I tried to be part of the system earlier
and make a change. You cannot trust people these days. I have lost all sense of
trust in politicians. We have all backed some politician who has then gone
ahead and sold us down the river for his personal gain. In the past three
years, I have preferred to sit back and relax and watch the system If you
don’t get involved you don’t get affected.
