Speed and bikes go hand in hand but does our miserable infrastructure and poorly managed traffic permit these rides and its safety? Another painstakingly insensitive motor bike ride ended a teenage girl’s life in Mumbai.
These repeated episodes time and again raise questions about the need to take safety measures while riding bikes, about speed limits, rules of issuing licences and many more such questions. But nothing transpires beyond media hype and the victim either dies or suffers and the faulted walks free.
Motorbikes seem to be adored by today’s generation. Girls and guys don’t refrain from using them. But their preference over being classy and less careful is what makes the difference. As soon as one has a bike safety limits and rules go down the drain.
Helmets are worn not as a safety precaution but to get away with penalties, stopping at red right is considered lame, speed limits on highways are ignored and most of the bikers don’t even use signals while changing lanes and riding under the influence of alcohol is not very uncommon.
This ultimately results in accidents sometimes affecting people who follow all the rules and practice every safety guidelines.
It is sad how we have compromised our safety with the need to be all classy and appear cool. Appearance and need to impress has brainwashed our kids and put their lives at stake.
This needs to be stopped or else more innocent lives will be taken and many more will be paralysed for life. Breaking traffic rules does not make you look elegant it just portrays how careless you are.
It is important to educate these insensitive kids the need to follow rules and take every precaution when on road, who forget to take safety precautions for themselves and others while riding.
Stringent rules needs to be implemented instead of being just on paper so that the wrongdoer is indeed punished and not just let free. Parents can play a big role as well. The most basic thing that they can do is not let their child illegally ride a motorbike.
Ensure that they attain legal driving age, get a valid licence and follow at least the basic safety rules. Being distracted, going triple seat on a motorbike, using cell-phones while riding needs stopped. Being careful is way better than being careless.
Your carelessness can cost you your life. Yes motorbike does enhance your standing among your friends and your social circle but for how long will it sustain!
Stunts and tricks look good on big screens because people train to do them under proper guidance and with safety measures. Trying to replicate your superhero is just too dangerous and not worth it if your action is going to scar you for the rest of your life.
Life is a precious one time gift. How you live your life is your choice but remember to guard your life. Being cool is not more important than being safe. Make a wise choice and be safe.
