It is a fact that BJP came to power in Goa only because of the weakness of the Congress when Congressmen started looting Goans. Though Congress is out of power in Goa, it alone is in a better position to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming election. However, in reality, this appears very difficult because Congress in Goa is not strengthening its base to face the challenge from the BJP and the Independents.
Congress is still tottering by clinging to the old guard and defeated candidates. As of now, it is unlikely they will get suitable replacements. The formation of a Third Front will be a distant dream and it will remain as such because none of these are politically heavyweights. In view of all this, Congress is going to face its doom once again in the next election.
Congress lacks leaders with leadership qualities and the charisma to woo the masses. It is time for the party in Goa to choose candidates of good character and not to impose on the voters candidates who are known to be corrupt.
