European football

The annual European football Champions League is now poised at an interesting juncture having reached the semi-final stage and it will be  fought by four most powerful clubs in the world I.e. Real Madrid,  Bayern Munich , Barcelona and Juventus.  It is a pity that none of the  English giants like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City could make the grade.
Football is a game of various chess like movements that sometimes confuse  a viewer. I remember some years back when World Cup matches were  being played in South Africa,  one Goan lady publicly stated that she was  at loss to understand  how 22 grown-up men  in a football field  could chase a ball in all directions.. Obviously she was more at home  with a ball’s  straight forward movement as it happens in the game of cricket.
Fortunately , for us in India, these games are being shown live on TV screen generally after midnight when one can enjoy them sipping steaming cups of  coffee and without any interruption from the lady of the house.  What attracts me most is the way Real Madrid play with its tsunami like  attacks and retreats.  No wonder, Madrid players are known as the  aristocrats of the football world.
