Chorao school secures 100% results
CHORAO: Dayanand High School from Chorao scored 100 per cent result in the SSC exam. In all, 29 students appeared for the exam with two students achieving Distinction, followed by First Class (11) and Second Class (16). Nikita Uskaikar secured 82 per cent
Alfiya excels at Valpoi centre
VALPOI: Alfiya Khan from Unity High School, Valpoi, secured 90 per cent in the SSC examination and topped at Valpoi centre. The management, headmaster, staff and PTA of the school complimented Alfiya and all other students. Sibga Shaikh, Suhel Shaikh, Sonal Naik and Faryana Khan also excelled.
St Clara HS Assonora gets 95%
BICHOLIM: St Clara High School, Assonora, secured 95 per cent result in the recently held SSC exams. Snehal Shinde stood first in the school with 85.33 per cent followed by Sherya Sambari (81.5%) and Roushell Fernandes (79.33%). Headmistress Winnie D’Souza and the management have congratulated the students.
Blood camp held at Curchorem
CURCHOREM: Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral inaugurated a blood donation camp, organised by Progressive Arts and Cultural Association, Curchorem, at Pontemol-Curchorem. The camp was organised in association with the Blood Bank of Hospicio Margao and over 75 blood donors participated in the camp.
Belgaum bandh today
BELGAUM: Members and leaders of various organisations have decided to observe ‘Belgaum Bandh’ on Monday to condemn the pictures containing alleged derogatory references to warrior king Shivaji and Shiv Sena leader late Bal Thackeray posted on a social networking site. The decision was taken at a meeting in Maruti temple premises at Maruti Galli in Belgaum on Sunday. The members at the meeting demanded stern action against the miscreants who posted such pictures on the social network.
Meanwhile, BJP workers resorted to road blockade for about 30 minutes in front of Shivaji Garden in Shahapur, in protest against the controversial pictures. Later a memorandum was submitted to the Superintendent of Police, demanding immediate arrest.
Mickky opens office at Loutolim
MARGAO: Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco inaugurated his office at Quenny Centre, Orgao –Loutulim on June 1, which he said, would help villagers to submit their grievances and other issues without having to come to Betalbatim. Pacheco also promised that he would visit the office once a week and said it would remain open from 9 am to 5 pm everyday except Sunday. On Sunday, another full-fledged office was also opened at Nuvem for benefit of local electorate. On the occasion exercise books were distributed to the students of Loutulim. Earlier the MLA distributed exercise books for students of Betalbatim, Nuvem and Majorda-Utorda village, through the Mickky Pacheco Charitable Trust.
Sada music teacher gets award
VASCO: Sharad Matkar was awarded the ‘Pride of the Nation International Award’ in the field of music. The Samata Shittya, Yawmtmal, Nasik, in its 7th annual function of International and National Gurav Puraskar function organised at Mahakavi Kalidas Kalamandir, Nasik, felicitated 15 personalities from all over India in the social, literacy, academics, journalism, arts and cultural and sports fields. Matkar, a music teacher from Sada, Mormugao, was one of the recipients of the prestigious award. Matkar received the award from former Arunachal Pradesh governor, Dr Mata Prasad. Matkar presently teaches music at Navy Children School, Chicalim.
Fr Urbano accorded farewell
CURCHOREM: The parishioners of Tilamol-Quepem said farewell to their parish priest Fr Urbano Fernandes, who served six years in the parish of Our Lady Mother of Poor Church at Tilamol. Fr Fernandes, who was ordained priest in 1968, took charge as parish priest of the Tilamola church six years back and worked with zeal and enthusiasm for the spiritual needs of the parishioners. The farewell function began with the Eucharistic celebration followed by various cultural programme organised by the parishioners.
