Rs 4,200 stolen from Navelim house
MARGAO: Suraj Maheshwar Mahajan, resident of Dongrim-Navelim has complained to Margao police that on September 27 between 2 am and 6.30 am at his residential house, the labourers of a showroom, Comba-Margao effected entry into his house by climbing the tree and further opening the gate of the house with the help of stick and committed theft of cash Rs 4,200 from his bedroom. An offence under Section 454, 457, 380 IPC is registered by Margao police and PSI Girendra J Naik is investigating.
Aquem woman’s child ‘kidnapped’
MARGAO: A lady advocate has complained to Margao police that her husband, who is also an advocate, criminally trespassed into her mother’s house at Aquem and kidnapped her 2-year-old son from her lawful custody without her consent and permission. The incident happened on Friday. Margao police have registered an offence of kidnapping under section 452, 363 IPC & Sec 8 of Goa Children Act 2005. PSI Ajit Umarye is investigating the case.
Three held for robbery
MARGAO: Margao police on Sunday arrested three persons Akshai, Mustak, Douns (full name not known) for wrongful restraint and robbery under section 395, 504 and 427 IPC while five other accomplices are absconding.
Leslie Rebello, Sinquetim, in his complaint has stated that on Saturday night at 11 pm while he was on his way home on his motorcycle and reached near Dada Cranes at Sirvodem, Navelim he was wrongfully restrained by eight accused who robbed him of his gold chain worth Rs 1.5 lakh and that they broke off his gold bracelet. PSI Ajit Umarye is conducting further investigation in the case.
Skeletal remains found at Loutolim
MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police on Sunday evening recovered skeletal remains of a male person from under the Borim bridge at Loutolim. Police said the skull was found separated from the highly decomposed body. Maina Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam suspected suicide behind the death as a thin nylon rope of half meter was found near the body and a part of the same rope was found tied up to a pipe under the bridge. Curtorim PSI Deu is investigating.
Gambling den busted at Pilar
PANJIM: The District Investigating Unit of the Goa Police along with Agassaim police busted a nine-member card gambling den at Pilar late on Saturday night and confiscated cash to the tune of Rs 2.40 lakh and other moveable assets. The police team acted on information received from reliable sources and arrested a gang of nine under section 11 (2)(a) of the Gambling Act. According to PSI of Agassain police station, Dinesh Gadekar, the case is under investigation. The nine accused were however released on bail today. Gadekar said that the police team comprising of the DIU led by PI Baburao Parab, SP North and Agassaim police raided a jaunt at Pilar where the gambling activities were on at around 11.00 pm on Saturday night. In addition to confiscating cash, other items attached were mobile phones, chairs and tables and playing cards.
Karmalghat mishap disrupts traffic
CANACONA: A pick-up driver was injured in a head-on collision between the pick-up and an interstate truck at Karmalghat on Sunday afternoon, disrupting traffic for over three hours.According to reports, the lorry (KA-30-8289) was proceeding towards Karwar when it collided head-on with the oncoming pick-up (GA-09-U-4444) while the truck was overtaking a truck at Karmalghat slope on Canacona side. The impact was that the fish boxes that were in the pick-up were totally cramped, but driver one Gabriel escaped unhurt. The Goan vehicle owner informed that Gabriel sustained minor injuries to his leg. The incident occurred at about 12 pm disrupting highway traffic for over 3 hours. The motorcade of Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, who was on way to Canacona after attending a function at Quepem, was also blocked. The minister who was scheduled to return back to Sanguem for another function later in the evening, was forced to take a lift on a two-wheeler to proceed to his house at Chaudi. His official car reached him only passed 3.30 pm. Incidentally, a branch of a mango tree came crashing down on the top of Karmalghat hill, blocking highway traffic for considerable time, before fire personnel rushed to clear the road.

Chimbel gram sabha on October 6
MERCES: The Chimbel gram sabha will be held on October 6 in the Panchayat hall at 10 am. The agenda for the meeting it to read and confirm the proceedings of the previous gram sabha, to discuss development activities and proposals received from the public and any other subject with the permission of the chairperson. Interested voters who wish to submit their proposals in writing may submit the same by noon of October 3, says a press note issued by the Chimbel Sarpanch Shruti Kunkalikar.
Siolim-Marna fetes students
TIVIM: The Siolim-Marna Panchayat along with child committee felicitated meritorious students from the schools in its jurisdiction.
The students felicitated were Vikita V Mandrekar (SFX), Rasmita M Haldonkar (Keerti Vidyalaya), Saini Shirodkar (Vasant Vidyalaya English High School), Larraine D’Souza in Science and Priti Vengurlekar in Commerce (SFX HSS).
Kiran Parsekar (gold medallist in Judo U-19 Goa), Scindia Saundatikar (gold medallist for girls U-14 football at Sri Lanka), Joviana Dias (gold medallist in shot put U-14 girls Goa) and Boys U-17 handball team championship Goa state, were awarded cash prizes and mementos for the achievements.
Earlier, Sarpanch Savitha Govekar also felicitated Scindia V Saunditikar for winning the gold medal representing India in under-14, football tournament at Sri Lanka.
Discourse on contentment and joy

Cleanliness drive in Canacona
CANACONA: Two newly formed NGOs in Canacona will organise a cleanliness drive in entire taluka on October 2.
NGOs, Pragati Manch and Prerna Manch, along with the taluka BJP committee members in a joint press conference informed that over 300 volunteers including NSS students and 120 elected local representatives consisting of Canacona Municipal Council and six panchayats will participate in the cleanliness drive.
“Garbage and roadside overgrown grass will be cleaned beginning at Chaudi and individual groups are formed to proceed with the cleanliness drive in six panchayats,” informed Prerna Manch President Prashant Dessai.
Pragati Manch President Mahesh Warik said, “Besides, the volunteers of our two NGOs, NSS students of Shri Mallikarjun College, Canacona, and Government Higher Secondary, Mastimoll, and SS Angle, Maxem and all the 120 elected members, most importantly Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar will volunteer in the drive.”
“As the drive will begin at 9.30 am, break will be taken to garland the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri at a function at KTC bus stand, Chaudi,” informed BJP block President Mahesh Naik.
Cabral urges water conservation
CURCHOREM: Curchorem MLA and GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral urged the students to join the tourism fraternity to plan strategies to conserve water and to help to preserve and protect the environment.
He was speaking at a function organized by Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management, Curchorem, to mark World Tourism Day. The theme of world tourism celebration is ‘Tourism and Water ~ Protecting our common future.’
“Sustainable tourism is essential. Goa is blessed with natural resources unlike artificial beautification and constructed water bodies,” he said.
In his speech, Tanbir Grewal, General Manager of ‘The HQ’ Vasco, urged the students to conserve water in every operational area of the hotel namely kitchens, housekeeping and food and beverage service.
The students of the school and Hotel Management presented various cultural programmes on the occasion.
