Centre should get its priorities right

Jerry Fernandes
I would like to congratulate some political leaders from states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and some North-Eastern states for rightly challenging the recent notification of the Modi-led BJP government at the centre which bans the sale of cattle, bulls etc for slaughter as the same has been mischievously brought in with the sole intention of harassing all beef-eating minorities to play dirty cow politics for political gains. Why only cows and not other animals like chicken which incidentally also give us eggs, goats which also give us milk etc?  And why not protect fish and the different plants which give us fruits and vegetables? Don’t these too have life in them?  Looks like the real agenda of the Modi government at the Centre is not of giving ‘ache-din’ for Indians or of eliminating hunger, poverty but of only forcibly imposing its own fascist agenda over others to play communal politics and of interfering in the personal religious matters, eating habits of minorities treating them like third-class citizens of this country.
It’s a known fact that our Indian minorities (including Hindus in some states) have been consuming beef since ages but historically our majority community have never reacted violently or had absolutely no issues whatsoever against those consuming or storing beef in our country for centuries. Now, weren’t the cows holy for our Hindu community during that time or in the past? The Congress party has ruled this country for almost 60 years but yet I feel that the minorities were safer during that period unlike today where they are suddenly being attack/killed in broad- daylight by self-styled ‘cow-protectors’ or goons on such stupid issues like beef just because life of cows has become more precious than all the human beings under the present BJP government.
I think that instead of selectively bringing out some stupid laws to harass the minorities playing cow politics for political gains, the government should seriously bring out strict laws against those who live to spread anti-minority hatred, who live to discriminate people on the basis of caste, creed, religion on a daily basis and boys families which still go to promote illegal dowry by inwardly accepting costly gifts like gold, cupboards, four wheelers, flats etc. from the poor girls families during every marriage time in different parts of India.
