The 10th State Road Safety Week programme (which has already begun from 25th October and will end on 31st October 2021) organized by Directorate of Transport to educate all motorists on the traffic guidelines was recently inaugurated by Minister of Transport, Mauvin Godinho at the KTC bus stand, Panjim. The theme for this year is: “Think and Drive, Stay Alive.”
The cops from the traffic cell as part of the ongoing so-called “awareness spreading” programme are therefore already seen standing in large groups on most roads, stopping & asking multiple stupid questions mostly for all the two-wheeler riders and advising them to use only ISI marked helmets by even distributing roses at some places in Goa. Well, it would have been better if these same cops had taken the initiative of distributing ISI marked helmets free of cost for all the motorists instead of those roses to make the burden less of all the “aam-Goans” as most of them (forget buying a new helmet) are currently already seen struggling to run their own families due to loss of jobs & also due to the ever-rising sky rocketing petrol prices in Goa.

Well, Minister Godinho whilst speaking during the said inauguration was heard advising all Goan motorists on how to save precious lives but was heard discussing nothing about the current state of affairs or condition of all the potholed roads in Goa.
Hey, if our transport Minister has so much of concern for the safety of our Goan motorists then why is he not advising his own government to fully repair all the potholed roads in a more professional manner and not by putting those shabby half patches for these same roads in Goa? Why is he not telling his government to bring a complete ban on the sale of liquor at the state level to stop all types of road accidents from happening in Goa? Why is he not instructing the cops from the traffic cell to strictly monitor the speed of every motorist using the highly sophisticated latest modern gadgets and to penalise only those who are found habitually indulging in drunken driving, over-speeding, over-taking etc even on all the narrow interior roads of Goa?
Today, if we find even struggling middle class Goan families from a single house using 4-5 two-wheelers and commonly creating a chaotic type of situation on most roads then that’s only because our respective governments over the years have miserably failed to improve/provide the general public with good descent 24×7 public transport system throughout Goa.
I therefore personally feel that the Goa government should first of all try to put up a good highly advanced modern type of public transport system in place on top priority basis not just in cities but even in the interior villages to henceforth discourage people from using their two wheeler vehicles whilst commuting on most major roads to stop traffic congestion and then dream of really saving precious lives instead of fooling everyone by mischievously coming out with such useless exercises with the sole intention of inwardly helping all the corrupt cops from the traffic cell to fill their own pockets more vigorously in the name of carrying road safety week programme in different parts of Goa….
