During the Congress rule in Goa, Delhi had proposed an international airport to be built in Goa. At that time the Congress stalwart like Rane, Faleiro, Dr Willy, Sardinha, Narvekar, Khalap and Churchill Alemao were considered as the loyal Congressmen by Delhi High Command. These congressmen then were in a plumb chair and they were well award the inside study that two airports were neither feasible nor economically viable for the tiny state Goa. But, then nobody uttered a word against the project. They are out of power and now they sing different political tunes on Mopa airport, also the Congress MLAs in the opposition sometime sing they want Dabolim only, sometimes they want Dabolim and Mopa and sometimes sing in praise of BJP.
Last year, the old Congress war horse Luizinho Faleiro is made the new chief of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee to stress on unity and discipline to revive the party. In the midst two questions was posed to him on Mopa issue and second to clarify his personal stand on two airports.
The chief had said that the Congress will oppose the proposed Mopa airport tooth and nail, and his personal expertise say clear that two airports are neither viable nor feasible for Goa. It appears that there is no one unity tune among the Congress loyalist and the Congress MLAs in the opposition. Then, the chief should explain which Congress will oppose it. Where was he (Faleiro) when Mopa was proposed – to oppose when he was the chief minister of Goa and industries minister? The Congress is out of power, the 2017 election is nearing, now the chief says Mhaka Naka Mopa.
Another, then loyal Congress soldier so-called Churchill Alemao and man of masses, when he was the PWD minister led anti-Mopa movement called Dabolim Forever Mopa Never, and called several meetings in the South/North Goa. Not succeeding, now Alemao on a new platform called Goa Public Forum; in his first meeting he sung the same tune Dabolim alone should be the international airport of Goa and Mopa a disaster to the state. It is seen at every Alemao meetings mostly the same prominent people and politicians are on the dais, instead of giving strong worded speeches against Mopa they are praising Alemao, even one prominent politician in his speech said Alemao a player and only politicians can end the Mopa issue and not priests.
