Captain Sumit Kapoor was among the five people who lost their lives in the tragic plane crash at Baramati that also claimed the life of NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday morning. Friends of the pilot revealed that Kapoor was not originally scheduled to operate the flight and had stepped in at the last moment after another pilot was delayed due to traffic.
According to those close to him, Kapoor had returned from Hong Kong just a few days earlier. He reportedly received instructions only hours before the flight to operate the aircraft carrying Pawar from Mumbai to Baramati, where the senior leader was to attend election rallies.

At around 8 am, Kapoor took off in a Learjet 45 operated by Delhi-based firm VSR Ventures. Ajit Pawar and three others were on board the aircraft.
The jet crashed at approximately 8:45 am while attempting a second landing approach at Baramati Airport. All five occupants were killed in the accident. The victims included Captain Kapoor, co-pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, flight attendant Pinky Mali, and Pawar’s security guard, Vidip Jadhav.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, with investigations underway to determine the exact cause of the crash and the circumstances leading up to the fatal second landing attempt.
