Modi invites new Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman, reaffirms strong neighbourly partnership

India has extended a formal invitation to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi sending his greetings and best wishes to the new government. The message was delivered by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who met Rahman in Dhaka shortly after the swearing-in ceremony. Officials said the interaction underscored the importance of sustaining strong bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, connectivity, and regional development. Speaking after attending the ceremony, Birla said India remains ready to support Bangladesh’s initiatives aimed at building a democratic and inclusive society. The invitation is seen as a continuation of ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two neighbouring nations, reflecting their shared interest in strengthening political dialogue, expanding economic partnerships, and promoting long-term regional stability through closer collaboration.
