A 68-year-old serial offender from Rajasthan has landed back in jail for the fiftieth time after allegedly robbing a local temple. Barkat Khan, also known as Babu, a resident of Pachpadra, was arrested for stealing cash and valuables from the Ashapura Mataji Temple in Sointra near Shergarh. Police said the temple was targeted twice in the past month, with the accused stealing ₹25,000, an LED TV, a microphone set and a silver canopy from the donation safe.
Villagers grew anxious following the repeated thefts, prompting night patrols in the area. Khan was caught during one such patrol while roaming near the temple premises. Police have recovered some stolen items and say Khan, who has cases dating back to 1984, had recently escaped from Ajmer jail.
