Former Punjab BJP vice-president Arvind Khanna joined the Shiromani Akali Dal on Sunday in Sangrur, marking a notable political shift in the state. Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal personally welcomed Khanna into the party and announced his appointment as the Halka Incharge for the Sangrur Assembly constituency.
Khanna, a two-time MLA and businessman, had joined the BJP in 2022 after previously being associated with the Congress. He contested both the 2022 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Sangrur on a BJP ticket but failed to secure victory. Political observers believe his move could influence the political equations in the region ahead of future elections.
