Marking a new phase in Bangladesh’s politics, Tarique Rahman, chief of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was sworn in as prime minister of Bangladesh on Tuesday. Rahman returned from years in exile after the death of his mother, Khaleda Zia, and led his party to a sweeping electoral victory.
The new government comes after the removal of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the interim administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. India was represented at the ceremony by Om Birla. Rahman has pledged national unity while focusing on restoring economic confidence and political stability.
