PANJIM: Claiming to have retained its appeal amongst the minorities, Bharatiya Janata Party said that they had received good response with 25,000 minority voters registering for the Narendra Modi’s rally on January 12
As of date nearly 82,000 people have registered themselves for the rally, BJP leaders claimed, adding that the party is expecting crowd of over one lakh with minority forming to 30 percent of the crowd.
Women and youth together form 60 percent of the total registered so far. “It’s not a question of people coming to see or listen to Modi, this they can been done by sitting infront of a TV set. People are coming to participate in a political event, to feel the electrifying atmosphere of such a magnifying rally,” BJP spokesperson Dr Wilfred Mesquita told media. He also said that BJP has managed to retain its appeal amongst the minorities. Modi’s Goa rally is one of the 100 rallies organised to create connect between the leader and the national electorate. Rs five is a ticket for the rally.
The attendance could go up to 1.20 lakh people from Goa with another 30,000 are expected from Goa boarder, especially from Konkan coast, according to the BJP.
The party would be hiring 1500 buses to ferry people for the rally, but has decided not to use private stage carriage buses for the rally but instead hire tourist buses.
“We are hiring nearly 250 buses from Karnataka and Sawantwadi to ferry people from constituencies such as Pernem, Canacona, Quepem etc,” BJP president Vinay Tendulkar said.
Meanwhile, Goa police are planning foolproof security for Modi throughout Sunday. The police top brass on Wednesday held a meeting to discuss the security arrangements for the rally.Sources said there would be more than 500 armed personnel besides reserved forces deployed at all crucial locations, which is being identified. With Goa, not having bullet proof vehicles for VVIPs and VIP visitors, the department has requisitioned such high-end vehicles from its two neighbouring states even as Modi will get his own vehicle from his home town Gujarat.
