The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) is set to host the second edition of the International Environment & Sustainability Summit in Goa, scheduled to take place from February 8 to 10, 2024. Minister Aleixo Sequeira, in a media briefing, expressed the collective goal of enhancing the quality of life in Goa and devising tangible solutions.
The summit, to be held at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao, will feature sessions and exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge technological solutions addressing various environmental challenges. These include waste management, water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, air pollution control, waste-to-energy conversion, e-waste and industrial waste management, as well as refuse disposal and recycling, plastic waste recycling, and more.

Reflecting on the outcomes of the previous summit, GSPCB Chairman Mahesh Patil highlighted the successful collaboration with the Goa government. He mentioned that Godrej, under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has initiated Rs 3 crore waste management projects in Sakhali, Bicholim, Valpoi, and 30 panchayats. Additionally, two more companies have expressed interest in similar initiatives, approaching the board for collaboration. Patil further revealed that as part of another MoU, 12 to 15 GSPCB staff members have enrolled in a Ph.D. program, focusing on Goa-centric research.
