PANJIM: With the onset of monsoon over the Goa coast, the State reported as many as 35 tree-fall incidents as a result of widespread rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) recorded maximum instances of the collapse of trees and branches during the last weekend as heavy rains also led to inundation and water logging in several places.
The June 11-12 weekend saw over 35 cases of falling of trees and branches either on the roads, houses, cars, compound walls, and even electrical wires.
Places such as Marcel, Curchorem, Curti-Ponda, IDC Verna, Nerul, Canacona, Korgao-Pernem, Virnoda-Pernem, Tisk-Ponda, Farmagudi, Siolim, Vasco, Panjim, Morlem-Sattari, Virdi-Sanquelim, Mayem, Chorao, Bicholim, Sanguem, Margao, etc reported tree falls or branch-fall incidents. While the roads were cleared off the fallen trees/branches by the fire personnel, quite a few families suffered losses as their premises and vehicles were damaged.
Ahead of the monsoon, the local bodies at many places had pruned the trees and branches posing dangers in rains, to avert any untoward incident.
