MARGAO: Of the 37 rapes registered at 12 police stations in South Goa during 2017, the victim was a minor in 26 cases and in seven cases the victim was a child below the age of 10 and in one case registered at Ponda two males raped a 15-year-old girl thrice.
While Maina-Curtorim police registered three cases of rape of children, Curchorem police registered two and one each was registered at Margao and Verna. At Margao, a six-year-old child was raped at Fatorda near the SBI housing colony on March 3, 2017 while at Verna an 8-year-old child was raped at Zuarinagar on December 21, 2017.
Maina Curtorim police registered three cases of rape. In the first case, a three-and-half-year-old girl was raped at Rachol on January 16, 2017, in the second, a seven-year-old girl was raped on February 22, 2017 at Manora Raia and a four-and-half-year-old girl was raped at Duguem in Nuvem.
The two cases registered at Curchorem police station are the rape of a five-year-old child in the jungles of Karmane Dabal who incidentally was raped four times and the other was the rape of an eight-year-old child at Karmaliwada in Cacora.
As many as 19 victims were teenagers but were minor in age and of them three were statutory rapes as the parties involved had sex several times and it is registered as rape only because the girls were minor. Seven of the teenagers were raped more than once implying that the boy was known to the girl.
