VALPOI: Forty government primary schools out of 101 in Sattari taluka will have to be closed if the Education Department decides to implement the Niti Aayog’s plans to close down primary schools having less than 15 students and shift them to nearby schools.
The decision has not been taken well by the students’ parents and strong opposition against it is building up in the taluka.

A large group of parents still wish to admit their children to Marathi medium schools and the respective decision has enraged many.
There are 40 primary schools in Sattari with less than 15 students. With uncertainty about their future hovering, the parents have voiced their discontent through PTA meetings and written appeals to the ADEI. Many parents have said that this will endanger the existence of traditions which are easier to be taught in Marathi and Konkani.
