Ribandar to be brought under Panjim police; traffic cell, Old Goa Police station to be shifted

PANJIM: The Goa government has proposed installing 634 close circuit television cameras across the State in a bid to thwart criminal activities. This was revealed during Question Hour in at the ongoing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the proposal will cover major towns including 134 CCTVs at 35 different locations in the capital city of Panjim.
His reply was to a question raised by Panjim MLA Siddhart Kuncalienkar seeking to 
know whether the government has any proposal for CCTV monitoring at strategic points in Panjim and Old Goa police station jurisdictions along with Central Monitoring 
System. 
“Crime has reduced and the detection rate has improved. We will take it (installing CCTVs) up on priority this year,” Parsekar added. 
The CM also assured to consider bringing Ribandar in the jurisdiction of Panjim police station and allocating a full-fledged outpost to that village. He also assured vacating Panjim traffic cell to expand the police station’s premises that currently faces acute space shortage. Parsekar proposed to shift the traffic cell to another location. Similarly, he said, Old Goa police station will also be shifted to a spacious location. 
The recently elected Panjim MLA had pointed out space crunch at Panjim and Old Goa police stations.
