PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decried the recent introduction of cess on agricultural produce stating that over the past four years, the ‘clueless and incompetent BJP-led government of Goa’ neither controlled inflation and price-rise nor rampant corruption and inefficiency in spending. The party has demanded scrapping the tax.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the fiscal irresponsibility has landed the State into its deepest debt ever, with no plan by the BJP in place to pay for its political shenanigans.
“The latest cess by the Goa government is another unprecedented burden on the aam aadmi who is already facing the brunt of callous decisions taken by the state government. The produce mentioned in the notification was never taxed in the past, nor has the government felt it necessary to take any stakeholders into confidence. AAP condemns such anti-people decisions, and demands that the government scrap these taxes and provide relief to the already overtaxed people of Goa,” it states.
