PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party on Monday criticised the BJP government for surrendering State’s interest and right on Mhadei River water at the behest of its party leadership in New Delhi, who are more interested in gaining grounds in Karnataka, which sends more Members of Parliament than Goa to the Centre.
AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre pointed out that a senior advocate, who is considered to be a stalwart like Adv Arvind Datta, has clearly stated that he was not instructed by the Goa government to appeal against the Mhadei Award Order pronounced by the Mhadei Tribunal.
“All along, the government has been claiming that it is protecting Mhadei River water but the senior advocate’s statement reveals that the State government had actually sold the Mhadei River to Karnataka at the behest of its New Delhi leaders,” said Rahul.
He pointed out that the Mhadei Tribunal Award was pronounced in February 2020 and the water is now diverted to Karnataka while the water in Goa will dry up as the State government has been used as a puppet by the BJP leadership in New Delhi.
He demanded that the Chief Minister produce proof in writing within 24 hours if he had issued any instructions to the advocate representing the State in the Tribunal and demanded to know why the State government has not approached the Supreme Court as mandated by the law in case the advocate has acted on his own.
Further, Rahul asked the Chief Minister why action has been initiated against the advocate in case he has acted on his won without any instructions from the State government.
He demanded that all these answers be provided within the next 24 hours.
