PANJIM: The process to outsource State’s sole abattoir located at Usgao has been delayed owing to the Model Code of Conduct, which is currently in force due to the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
The Goa Meat Complex Limited (GMCL), the State run corporation has postponed opening of tender document from April 1 to June 3.
The GMCL has also extended the date for the bidding till May 30.
The GMCL in March had invited online global tender for use of entire capacity of the modern abattoir, for slaughtering of bovine animals, for an initial period of five years, tentatively from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2024.
The GMCL is been shut since October 2014.
Speaking to Herald, GMCL Managing Director Rajendra Prabhu Gaonkar said, “Following advice from the Infotech Corporation, the tender monitoring agency; we have postponed the date for opening up of tenders to June 3. We were suppose to open the tenders today (Monday) but Infotech Corporation suggested that since election code is in force, we should postpone it,” he said.
Gaonkar said that the interested companies can now submit their technical bids till May 28 and financial bids by May 29.
GMCL has managed to get all the required permissions like licences from Factories and Boilers, FSSAI and consent to operate from GSPCB, mandatory for functioning of abattoir.
