MARGAO: The Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has alleged that the accident prone zones are increasing day by day due to the “sheer negligence on the part of the State Government which unfortunately is least bothered to address the road safety related concerns.”
“To show the latest failure of road safety, Goa witnessed a major accident on the Chimbel-Old Goa bypass road where a Karnataka registered car went through the metal barricade (metal guards). In the said mishap one of the five occupants died on the way to Goa Medical College,” Reginaldo said.
“This goes to show the poor quality of safety barrier erected by the side of the roads/ national highways. These barriers are meant to provide safety to vehicle users and not become an additional hazard by itself,” he pointed.
“On Mumbai-Pune expressway (National Highway) a 16 tonne truck hits barricade but nothing happens to the barricade whereas in Goa a government led by Manohar Parrikar has seen a 1.2 tonne Tata Indica vehicle severs the poor quality barricade which is made up of cheap material. What an ironical situation? Reginaldo lamented.
He further said that Goemkars are fed up with the continuous mis-governance by the BJP government. “The people of Goa want to educate the pompous authorities that these safety barriers are meant to prevent vehicles from falling into ravines in the ghat section and also avoiding any other mishap,” he added.
