VALPOI: Demanding that the panchayat take immediate action against feni and urrack manufacturers for dumping cashew waste in the open, the residents of Kolam wada have complained that many of them have fallen sick due to the foul odour and several cattle have died after feeding on the waste.
They have threatened to take out a morcha to the panchayat if it fails to take action against the cashew feni manufacturers.
Deepak Morajkar, a villager said the germ-infested waste has caused the area to stink as feni manufacturers have failed to clear the same. Animals have died by feeding on the waste. “We have requested the health dept and the panchayat to take immediate action and stop/shift the manufacturing of feni and urrack out of the village,” said a local.
