NAVELIM: The Navelim electricity sub-station is facing an acute shortage of manpower and handful of staff is strained to serve a vast area of semi-urban Navelim village in Salcete taluka having population of over 30,000.

An electricity department staffer, speaking in condition of anonymity divulged that ‘the department does face an acute manpower shortage as many of the staffers have retired and no fresh recruitments are being done. Earlier, there were 30 to 32 staff working in Navelim but presently there are only 19 to 20 staff working and another one or two personnel will retire this year. A request has already been made in this regards to the concerned officials.’
A resident of Belem-Navelim and Aam Admi Party (AAP) Navelim Zilla Panchayat candidate Mathilda Silva expressed her ire over the State government’s uncaring and callous attitude in solving the hardships faced by the Salcete taluka residents, particularly Navelim villagers.
Pointing out the arrogant attitude some of the electricity department personnel, Silva severely criticised the Goa BJP government for their lethargy in replacing the retired staff in the Navelim electricity sub-station as well as other government departments throughout Goa.
