ALDONA: The villagers of Aldona held a silent and contemplative 2-km long candle light procession in memory of late Januz Pavel Gonsalves on October 3 from his residence at 6.30 pm.
Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital on Friday had disposed the body of Januz in place of an unclaimed body.
The procession witnessed youth, senior citizens, housewives and others walked unitedly with the family as a sign of love for Januz. Many wore their Juvetus football club jersey, the team that the young lad supported.
The procession started from Januz’s family home in Goncoi and followed his favourite path through the fields past Columba Residency, behind St Thomas Girls High School.
Locals joined the procession at various places along the route to Tercena ground. The procession was held as a mark of love and respect for Januz and his bereaved family. All carried their own candles and recited the rosary along the entire route.
On reaching the Tercena ground where the procession concluded everyone stood in solidarity and maintained a minute’s silence for the soul of Januz.
After this his siblings, friends and villagers came forward and sang songs which were either Januz’s favourite music or their own music. Others also read poems composed on the incident related to Januz and the loss suffered by the Gonsalves family. However there were no speeches which were political nor critical in nature.
Some sang about the heart break and darkness that has surrounded the Gonsalves family after the sudden death of their loved one. While others prayed for his soul to rest in peace and few sang about how they dearly miss him. The lyrics of the song sung by his friend Renuka Figueiredo and Deepika Figueiredo read as follows; ‘There’s no one in town I know. You gave us some place to go. I never said thank you for that. I thought I might get one more chance. . . .May angels lead you in’.
The lyrics of the soulful song put forth by his elder sister, Mercedes Lucas read as follows. ‘Stars fading but I linger on, dear. Still craving your kiss. I’m longing to linger till dawn, dear. Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you. Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you. But in your dreams, whatever they be. Dream a little dream of me’.
The Aldona MLA, Glenn Ticlo also attended this candle light procession.
