MARGAO: Convener of Jai Damodar Association, Mahesh Dattaram Nayak, who is a petitioner in a case of alleged violations of expenses in temples and also a Mahajan of Ramnathi Devasthan said, “There is a need to put all temples of Goa under the Income Tax scanner as there is misappropriations worth crores of rupees which I have proofs of. Crores or rupees are spent for renovation of temples, halls, rooms, lakes and others without following the Mahajani Act. Tenders are never floated for these works and works are allotted to near and dear of the managing committee members. Every year the accounts are audited by Chartered Accountants, but not as per I-T guidelines, which are later submitted to the administrator of temples. However, there is no CA with the administrator of temples leaving loopholes of misappropriation unplugged,” Nayak said.
He added that CAs appointed by the committee are relatives of managing committee members who make tailor made statements of accounts for the trusts.
