Amdar, a tiatr written and directed by John Alexandro Fernandes and presented by Machi Mogi Morjim Cultural and Sanskrutic Saunstha, Morjim, focuses on an MLA and minister and how their functioning can help build or destroy society.
Jonas (Jose D’Souza), son of an upright and honest minister Braganza (Cyril Fernandes), falls in love with Melisa (Natty Fernandes), daughter of a poor man Remedios (Peter Rodrigues).
Initially, due to the gap between the rich and poor and fear of Jonas taking undue advantage of his sister’s innocence, Melisa’s brother, Frazer (Fazer Fernandes) opposes the relationship. Over a period of time, Remedios along with his son, Frazer agree to Melisa tying the knot with Jonas. The entry into a palatial house leads to Melisa making a wish, at the behest of her father-in-law.
What is the wish that Melisa makes? Will it bring in posterity or doom to the family? When greed for money empowers Melisa, what steps does she take? Will she lose her humanness?
The tiatr ‘Amdar’ throws light on the good and bad sides of an MLA and minister. The writer has made efforts to portray both sides of a politician. The goodness in one elected representative which results in the welfare of the society and the selfish motive in another which spells doom to oneself and others is the highlight of the drama.
Cyril Fernandes stood tall as the honest and upright minister. Jose D’Souza looked comfortable in his character. Peter Rodrigues acted quite naturally as the simpleton. Frazer appeared robust in looks and dialogue delivery. With her graceful looks, Natty Fernandes was prompt and in command. Lincoln tried to infuse laughter with his swift acts. Teens Frenwin and Kenneth Fernandes were natural in their minor roles.
Connie, William, Mathew, Jose and Seby extended good support to the main cast. John Alexandro and Lorna Fernandes as Modhu and Laila respectively were natural comedians.
Songs on different themes by Bony, Ernest, Evaristo, Lajjea, Bushan, John Rosario, Jerry, Johncy, Hendry, Richard, Antonio, Peter and Roque were entertaining.
Stage designs by Goa Green Events, besides background music by Franky Fernandes deserve a mention. Vitorino and his team provided soothing live music to the songs and cantos.
