Moves on to dissolve the Corporation of the City of Panaji?
Disgruntled over the functioning of the Corporation of the City of Panajo (CCP) and increasing scams and controversies, it is learnt that the state government is contemplating on dissolving the CCP which still has two years to go before its completes its five year tenure.
It appears that the matter has been under discussion at high levels of the state administration.
According to highly placed sources, the move to dissolve the CCP will take a while as the CCP Act does not have any provision and will require an amendment in the Goa Assembly to incorporate the same.
While most senior bureaucrats and officials at the urban development ministry and municipal administration are tight lipped on the issue, the CCP Commissioner also chose not to comment on the matter.
Herald has learnt that the government has been receiving serious complaints of alleged corruption in the CCP over grant of construction licenses and a host of other issues during the last 18 months.
A complaint has also come from a leading multi national company, which is proposing a project in Panjim.
