MARGAO: Chairman of Goa Law Commission Narendra Sawaikar and UTAA leaders on Saturday made their presence felt in the South Goa Sessions Court on Saturday in connection with the chargehseet filed against them by the CBI for damaging railway and public property on the day of the UTAA agitation at Balli on May 25, 2011.
The matter, however, was adjourned to May 21 for appearance of all the 21 accused persons in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Vijaya Pol.
UTAA President Prakash Velip and former Sanguem MLA Meng Gaonkar were amongst the UTAA leaders who were present in the courtroom today. Sports Minister, Ramesh Tawadkar, however, was conspicuous by his absence.
The case was committed to the Sessions Court by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Quepem on grounds that a prima facie case was made out against the 21 accused by the CBI under Section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, The CBI has also charged them under Sections 143, 147, 148, 341, 435, 188, 332, 324 read with Section 149 of the IPC.
It was the case of the CBI that the accused persons blocked and damaged railway property on the day of the UTAA agitation on May 25 in support of the charter of demands. Besides, the CBI also charged them for burning and damaging around 18 government vehicles on the same day.
