Bardez villages without power supply for hours

ALDONA: Villages in Bardez taluka were left without power supply for several hours following incessant rains and strong winds that caused severe damage and destruction on Thursday. 
Several trees got uprooted and roads were blocked as heavy rains and strong winds lashed the state. The Mapusa fire personnel were kept on their toes as they responded to over 37 calls. Sources revealed that the loss suffered in Bardez taluka alone is estimated to be over Rs 60 lakh.
Aldona, Revora, Mapusa, Siolim, Assagao, Moira, Anjuna and other areas of the taluka were battered by the rains and high velocity winds. Power supply was disrupted at a couple of places due to broken power lines. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
An Electricity Department official informed that they had to attend to multiple calls due to which restoration of power to certain areas in Bardez was delayed on account of a number of branches and trees that fell on the power lines.
A fire incident was reported wherein a house was gutted at Carona, Aldona and the loss was estimated to be Rs 10 lakh. It is learnt that incident occurred due to a short circuit.
