Basic health services now provided at old Hospicio hospital complex

MARGAO: After the shifting all the health services of Margao Health Centre have been put in operation at the new venue; old Hospicio hospital building on Monday. 

Dr Soccorro Quadros, Health Officer, and his team will now try their best to provide uninterrupted health services to the public at the new premises, however, questions are being raised by the people about the safety at the old Hospicio hospital building which is too in pathetic condition.

Following the collapse of a portion of the upper storey of the UHC housed in a heritage building, Department of Health Services and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had instructed to immediately shift the health services as a precautionary measures. 

It was noticed that public visiting at the old Hospicio building found no difficulties as everything was managed well by the team of UHC, Margao. Staff and Dr Quadros besides security personnel were seen helping the public at the venue. 

Speaking to reporters, Dr Quadros said that all the basic health services will be provided at the old Hospicio hospital complex. 

“Health services will be continued at the new location until further directions from the concerned department. There will be no issue pertaining to providing all the basic medical facilities over here”, he informed.

However, a team of engineers from the Goa College of Engineering-Farmagudi are yet to visit the heritage building with regard to the stability of the building. 

Reliable sources stated that all the formalities have been completed and the team of engineers will carry out their inspection within the next couple of days.
