PANJIM: The availability of beef was delayed by yet another day as the Goa Meat Complex decision to procure beef from outside the State took a while to materialise.
Meat Traders speaking to Herald said that there should be beef available at their counters tomorrow given that the beef imports by the Complex would start today.
“Beef will be available tomorrow. The meat complex has said they would start bringing in beef. The meat will be sold through our shops,” Anwar Bepari told Herald, adding that the meat would be brought in from Belgaum.
He reiterated that unless the High Court ban on slaughter of animals from outside the State was lifted, there was no hope of the slaughter recommencing at the Goa Meat Complex.
This is the fourth week that beef is in short supply in the State after the High Court first imposed a ban on the slaughter of animals at the complex on April 22.
, on the basis of a petition filed by the Govansh Raksha Abhiyan and others, alleging irregularities and unhygienic conditions besides animals rights violations.
