In a shocking incident, unknown culprits broke into the Bethany Convent High School at Sao Jose de Areal last night and lifted away brass plated shields and trophies won by the students in sporting events during the past 24 years.
The miscreants also decamped with water taps. The incident came to light at around 7 am when a football player came running to the school headmistress Sr Ida Lobo saying that miscreants have broke open the locks of the gate and office.
Sr Lobo said she immediately intimated the incident to the Maina Curtorim Police, who later initiated investigations into the theft.
“These trophies were won by the students at the State and National level in the last 24 years. Besides, 12 brass taps were decamped with. The miscreants also broke open the lockers and the latch of the doors. We are very sad at the damage and the missing items,” Sr Lobo added.
Replying to a question, Sr Lobo said the police should probe into the involvement of the workers who were engaged in the painting of the school building.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco also visited the school and instructed the police to immediately bring the culprits to book. “I have told the police to bring the workers engaged for the painting work for interrogations. The police should not spare anyone involved in the incident,” he said.
