The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed its National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh, as the central observer for the election of the legislature party leader in Manipur, indicating renewed efforts towards the formation of a government in the state.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule following prolonged Meitei-Kuki ethnic violence, with the imposition set to complete one year on February 13. The latest development suggests that the BJP is actively exploring political options to restore an elected government.
Several legislators from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Manipur are currently in New Delhi, where they are holding discussions with the BJP’s central leadership on the prospects of government formation.
As part of the process, BJP MLAs from Manipur are scheduled to convene a crucial meeting at the party’s national headquarters at 3 pm on Tuesday. This will be followed by a separate meeting of MLAs from BJP’s alliance partners at Manipur Bhawan at 4 pm.
The outcome of these meetings is expected to play a key role in determining the political roadmap for Manipur in the coming days.
