CANACONA: The BJP on Monday lodged a complaint with Election Commission against Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai, accusing him of using “abusive language and un-parliamentary” words against Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar during a Congress rally in Canacona.
The complaint, signed by BJP Canacona Block Vice President Sanjay Komarpant and block member Bushan Prabhugaonkar, was presented along with a recorded CD of Sardessai’s alleged abusive speech to Assistant Returning Officer Canacona Sudhin Natu, demanding stern action against the Fatorda MLA.
“Sardessai has failed to respect ethics in politics and saying such a thing to his fellow MLA spells the real face of the MLA. BJP workers wanted to retaliate by targeting Sardessai wherever he goes to address Congress meetings, but we have restrained our workers from doing so,” stated Sanjay Komarpant, block vice-president of Canacona BJP, while addressing a news conference.
The complaint further stated that Sardessai committed the offence while he was addressing a public meeting of Congress at Chaudi on Saturday. Komarpant condemned the use of abusive language by Sardessai against an elected representative, which he said, had hurt the sentiments of all people from Canacona.
“Sardessai has deeply abused the tribal community in general as well as voters of Canacona who have sincerely elected the legible candidate,” he said.
