PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved decriminalisation of certain provisions of various Acts by omitting provision for imprisonments so as to provide Ease of Living.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that process of decriminalisation of various legislations is being taken up as per Central Government’s focus on decriminalisation of provisions of imprisonment for minor violations and offences and to enhance the fines or penalties so as to bring in ‘Ease of Living’.

Sawant said “Government of India has requested the States to draw up roadmaps for decriminalisation of various provisions in laws by dropping provisions of imprisonment for minor violations. Accordingly, most of the Acts will be amended and provisions of imprisonment will be dropped and the same will be substituted with higher fines.”
The Chief Minister said that decriminalisation of as many as 18 different laws will be amended. Some of these laws are The Government Disease of Animal Amendment Bill 2022; Goa Education Development Corporation Act 2003; Goa State Research Foundation Bill 2022 as per NAP; Goa Preservation of the Trees Amendment Bill 2022’; Goa Information Technology Development Act 2007; Goa Fruit and Ornamental Plants, Nurseries (Regulations) Act 1995; Goa Agricultural Fruit and Livestock Marketing Promotion and Segregation Act of 2007 and Rules 2020; Goa Plant Diseases and Pests Act 1976; Goa Film Shooting Policy 2020 etc.
