PANJIM: Panjim police on Tuesday registered a criminal case against 50-odd persons for trespassing into the office of the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) and abusing its Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Tulsidas Pai.
The FIR under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 447 (criminal trespass), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intention to provoke breach of peace) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons taking cognisance of a complaint lodged by Pai.
A day earlier, on Monday, a Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) delegation gheraoed Pai to know whether Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had indeed chaired the board meeting via video conferencing and demanded proof of this.
The delegation led by spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar had slammed the OSD for misleading the public and holding illegal meetings in the absence of the chairman, whose presence and approval is mandatory as per the Act. Pai, however, preferred to remain a silent spectator.
Since taking ill in February, Parrikar has attended just two IPB meetings in June and July. There were reports that the CM had held a board meeting via video conference even as he is recuperating at his residence.
