The Corporations of the City of Panjim (CCP) is all set to float tenders for 58 works worth Rs 2.4 crore even as its coffers have dried up completely.
Calling this as an attempt on the part of some ruling corporators to “fool” Panjimites, Opposition members have raised questions about whether tendered works will be at all completed in a one-and-a-half month before present body completes its term.
The CCP elections are scheduled mid March.
The CCP Corporator Surendra Furtado, who is against of issuing any tenders at this late stage, said the Commissioner should not approve any tenders unless funds are made available and raised question about whether works would be completed within so little time.
“If they (ruling corporators) have not been able to get developmental works done in the last five years, will they be able to do anything within a month and a half?” questioned Furtado,
It is reliably learnt that in a day or two the CCP will float tenders even though it has no funds left to take up more works.
When contacted however CCP Mayor, Carolina Po was tight lipped about fresh tenders.
On the other hand CCP Commissioner Elvis Gomes claimed that he had not received files pertaining to subject works.
Herald sources in the technical department confirmed that indeed tenders will be floated for 58 works even as CCP is yet to arrange required funds.
The Opposition Corporator Rupesh Haldankar alleged that this is a ploy on the part of some ruling corporators to earn commission so that they can fund their election expenditure.
